Song of the Dunes

I will sing

for you
for us here
for those to come

You sang for those before us
and they danced in the cold;
it pierced their skin
they bled and were reborn.

I will be reborn
in the same wind
cold and piercing
full of life and death
memories of the universe

salt and sand and dust
carried by every breath
of wind, from east to west

through the tree and the sea
and the trumpet of the elephant
that blasts the music of the wind
to the desert where I lie

lightheartedly alone with you.
